Skarrd Abomination
The robotic part of the Abom. is meant to have been made from scrap metal so I tried to convey this in the painting by using an assortment of mismatched colours and by dirtying up the miniature. I'd seen a few miniatures recently onto which people had painted scratches and I thought that was the best bet here. It's actually quite a bit of fun. After finishing an area paint odd scratch-like shapes in black, then fill the centre in with a rust colour leaving a thin line of black around the edges. Highlight the rust and finally highlight the edge of the paint under the scratch in a lighter colour to give some depth to the scratch. Doesn't take too long and generally turns out pretty well.
The rest of the painting was pretty straight forward other than painting dust, rust and oil marks onto most of the miniature at the end. This was just done by glazing the appropriate colour where necessary (like a glazing of rust under a scratch) using one thin layer at 1st increasing the layers of glaze the closer you get to the source.
