| A lot of people rubbish GW's LotR line but I can't for
the life of me figure out what they have against it. In my opinion the
LotR miniatures sculpted by the Perry brothers are amongst the best
I've ever seen... From the look of Merry and Pippin I'm guessing that
they're Perry sculpts, the detail is pretty astounding considering their
size and they were a real pleasure to paint.
It's always interesting re-examining miniatures a good length of time
after they were painted. I was really happy with these guys when I finished
them 6 months ago but now I can't help seeing all the things I would
have done differently. I'm still really happy with the clothes but some
mud on the hems of the cloaks would have been an improvement. I think
the faces could do with a little more colour - using just different
shades of the same colour usually results in a lifeless look. Finally
I would probably use metallics if I was to paint them again, I don't
think NMM looks quite right when used on LotR miniatures. All up though
I'm still fond of them, despite their size they were great fun to paint
and turned out pretty well I guess. |
